How To Install Power Strip On Wall – DIY Guide

In this how-to tutorial, I’ll teach you how to mount a power strip in five minutes.

How to Mount Power Strip to Wall With Screws?

To mount your power strip on the wall, you need to follow the simple steps that I’ve provided in the list below.

Things you’ll need:

  • A power strip
  • Masking tape
  • Marker
  • Drill machine
  • Screws

Steps:

  1. Please keep all the things that we’ll need in the process near you.
  2. Pick your power strip and turn it around. Check how many holes it has to facilitate mounting.
  3. Once you’ve identified the holes, cut the strips of tape accordingly and paste them at the back of the power strip.
  4. Make sure the strips are well adjusted.
  5. Pick up a marker and mark the holes over the tape.
  6. Please take out the tape and paste it on the desired wall.
  7. Pick up your drill machine and put screws on the spots you marked.
  8. When the screws are in the wall as you need, this is the time where your power strip is attached to the wall.
  9. Take out the tape off the wall and mount your power strip. And… you’re done!

This was a DIY power strip mounting process that you can quickly try any day. Do you want a power strip to mount with absolutely NO SCREWS involved?

Let me show you how.

How to Mount Power Strip to Wall Without Screws?

Hanging a power strip on the wall with no screws or holes is not as simple, but it’s definitely manageable.

What you need:

  1. Power strip
  2. KLAPiT
  3. Measuring tape
  4. Pencil

Steps to follow:

  1. Take a measuring tape and mark two points that will maintain the balance of the power strip.
  2. Open KLAPiT, you’ll see there are three things in pairs. Beta tape, Alpha tape, and a magnet.
  3. Now, use the KLAPiT Beta tape on the marks at the back of the power strip. Apply dual thumb pressure and palm pressure by the end to make sure it’s fixed.
  4. Your next step is to use Alpha tape and stick it on the wall with the same pressure. Leave the wall for an hour or so.
  5. Lastly, hold the power strip, use the magnet that came with KLAPiT between Alpha and Beta tapes and apply appropriate pressure there.

This method will require no drilling or screws. It’s easy peasy lemon squeezy. Next, we will look at the points that you need to check for secure mounting.

Safety Tips to Mount a Power Strip to the Wall

When you’re learning how to install a power strip on a wall, it’s important that you also pay heed to safety measures, especially if you’re working with screws for the first time.

  1. The steps before the actual drilling are pretty simple but when you get to the drilling part, make sure that you make holes exactly where you pointed. It can get tricky there, and mishandling can have you making multiple holes in the wall.
  • You can hang extension cord on the wall using safety tape or small nails.
  • Remember that power strips are not for permanent mounting once you’re over the hanging power strip on the wall part because they can be dangerous. The holes are there so you can keep them off when you’re not using them.
  • One of the most important things you need to note when installing a power strip is to avoid ‘daisy chaining.
  • The term is given to people using one power strip to power another power strip or extension. This can result in accidents.
  • Power strips are used for temporary supply so they can easily get hot. That’s your signal to turn the switch off and let it rest.
  • Another thing that you need to ensure is your power strip is not overloaded with connections.
  • Power strip wires should be untangled, especially when it’s plugged.
  • Keep your power strip or surge protector in a dry place to prevent any damages.
  1. Since the power strips use wires, it’s essential to keep them uncovered (unless you’ve fixed the wires). Why? Because if the wires are covered, you won’t know if they are tangled or got hot.

Do not use power strips for medical care. The medical experts are still investigating these strips to verify if they can be used to power healthcare machines, but until there’s a certainty, it’s better to keep the precautions in check.

TIP: mounting a surge protector involves the same process.

When you want to install a power strip, you need to look for more than a power strip with mounting holes.

Why?

Because it’s a one-time purchase, and secondly, the type of power strip you choose has a good say in the installation process.

Let me explain it in the next section.

5 Things You Must Consider Before Buying Power Strip

A power strip comes in a variety. Choosing the right type is what defines the mounting process.

Have a look at things that you should check before buying a power strip.

  • Most appliances have transformer plugs, but not all power strips support that without blocking other plugs. So you know this is your first point to check. Besides, try to use your power strip specifically for low voltage devices for optimum usage.
  1. Choose a power strip that has enough length of wire to connect to your primary power source. Otherwise, you’ll have to go for cord extensions that will not look as good.
  2. Moreover, please note that power strips are not being used permanently. They should only be used when you’re looking for temporary power support.
  3. Make sure your power strip has surge protection because if not, the power surges can burn the power strip wires. You can either buy a surge protector or a power strip with similar qualities.
  4. Check the amount of voltage your primary power circuit can handle and choose your power strip accordingly. Or, you can use a DIY power strip surge protector along with it.
  5. Verify for the power strips’ safety labels. Some power strips are verified by UL certification (Underwriters Laboratory). Try to buy these. They protect your power strips from burns, power surges, and shocks.

How do Power Strips work?

Most power strips work on the same pattern. It’s just the number of outlets that makes the difference. There are usually 3 to 4 outlets in a power strip. The conductors of these plugs are arranged in sequence, one after the other.

Features

  • Some advanced power strips also have USB outlets, transformer plugs, and three prongs.
  • Power sensitive strips are mainstream these days. They trip automatically whenever the power surges to keep the strip protected.

Conclusion

Power strips are a reliable solution to power your digital devices temporarily. If you think you need a permanent solution, you’ll need to have a proper socket installation on the wall.

As we conclude, here’s a summary of what we learned in this blog. This blog post included everything from power strip installation to how they work.

I intend to provide all the necessary information that you may need when you think of a DIY installation.
